So you already know the villains. Well, it’s time to get to know the heroes of the Uncharted series.
Let’s rank them from least to best:
Appearing only in Golden Abyss, Marisa Chase is the granddaughter of archaeologist Vincent Perez and she carries a golden amulet that he’d given to her. It’s believed to be a key to unraveling the mystery surrounding Quivira. She has mastered climbing and treasure hunting since she was fifteen as well as developed extensive knowledge of ancient artifacts. Chase doesn’t trust people easily and only opens up to them when they get close enough to be her partner. Her purpose is to finish her grandfather’s work, so she uses his research in the hopes of rewriting history. She totes a Desert-5 and .45 Defender.
Tenzin appears in Among Thieves. He is the leader of a remote Tibetan village in the Himalayas. A Sherpa guide, he leads Drake through the mountain and cave systems, which in turn helps in Drake’s search for the Cintamani Stone and takes the latter to Fisher and Schafer. Since Tenzin doesn’t speak English – and in fact the only main character in the series unable to speak English – he and Drake communicate mostly by gesturing to each other. Drake considered him as a very trustworthy ally.
Appearing in the last half of Drake’s Deception, Salim is a leader of a small tribe of Bedouins living in the Rub’ al Khali desert and serves as an ally to Drake. He takes Drake and Sully to the open desert where the Atlantis of the Sands is located, even going as far as saving them when the Atlantis collapses. He is a wanderer by nature, but rarely strays far from the desert as he is tasked to protect the secret of Ubar. Salim is featured as a playable skin in Drake’s Deception and A Thief’s End. His known catchphrase is “Yallah!”
First introduced in Among Thieves, Karl Schafer lives in a remote town in the mountains of Tibet. He is a supporting character and ally to Drake, sending him to look for the Cintamani Stone and helping in the fight against Zoran Lazarevic – although he was eventually captured by the latter. He was a former German expeditioner hired by the Nazis to find the entrance to Shambhala and the Cintamani Stone but decided to abandon his expedition. Schafer uses the submachine gun MP40 and P08-9mm as his weapons.
Appearing in Drake’s Deception, Charlie Cutter is an is an English fortune hunter and an associate of Nathan Drake, Chloe Frazer and Victor Sullivan. He initially infiltrates Marlowe’s army to be an inside man to help his friends find the location of Ubar, the Atlantis of the Sands. Not much is known about Cutter as he only appears in the first half of the game. But he’s known to be smart and well-educated, despite looking like a thug. He is loyal to his allies and tends to be humorous to lighten up a conversation. Cutter is revealed to be very claustrophobic.
Appearing in A Thief’s End, and The Lost Legacy, Samuel Drake is the older brother of Drake. He’s a professional thief and treasure hunter like Frazer. After having been thought to be dead, Sam returns to ask for Drake’s help in finding the lost treasure of Henry Avery, then teams up with Chloe Frazer in finding the Tusk of Ganesh. Although a career thief, he’s known for his good heart and great moral compass, spending half of his life supporting and providing for himself and Drake. He’s a great asset to any treasure hunting expedition.
Appearing in Among Thieves and Drake’s Deception, Chloe Frazer is an Indian-Australian treasure hunter and thief for hire and Drake’s other love interest. She starts as a business associate of Drake and Harry Flynn, working with them when they’re hired by a benefactor to steal an oil lamp from a Turkish museum. She’s considered a darker version of Drake and bad girl version of Elena Fisher, Drake’s main love interest. Witty and practical, she’s always a great addition to any team. Although she tends to be impulsive and a questionable moral compass at times. Frazer is a strong female character, and known as very sexually forward compared to other female characters in most video games.
Victor Sullivan first appears in Drake’s Fortune when he rescues Drake and Elena from a pirate attack at sea with his seaplane. Like most of the characters, Sully is a treasure hunter. He’s a friend, father figure and longtime partner of Drake, joining the latter in various adventures. He also mentored Drake at one point, providing insight into his criminal activities. He used to be in the Navy, making him quite skilled in star-based navigation and knowledgeable of the location of Iram of the Pillars, for which he was captured. Sully is in constant debt in the game, which makes him selfish and mean-spirited at times, once providing great interest in the treasure of El Dorado.
Drake’s main love interest and later, wife, Elena Fisher appears in every installment of the series. She’s a professional journalist, meeting Drake while following and filming Drake’s archaeological findings. She then proceeds to join him and Sully in various adventures. One of the strongest video game heroines, Fisher is known to be cynical and resilient. She’s intended to be a sidekick to Drake, but proves to be just as resourceful and skilled as her husband, practically the “female version” of Drake. Fisher holds her own in their adventures and drives Drake to keep moving forward. She’s a great strategist and even helps him sneak into restricted areas as well take out enemies.
We’ve definitely saved the best for last with Nathan Drake, the main protagonist of the Uncharted series. Depicted as a professional treasure hunter, Drake is described as a “deep-sea salvage expert and action-pro” and has a shady background involving various people from an illegal underground market. He’s highly intelligent and self-educated in various languages as well as history, using his wits and skills to get out of tough situations. He also believes himself to be a descendant of Sir Francis Drake. Drake looks like an easy-going, next-door type of guy, but he’s known to possess a very strong personality.
Now you know the heroes, heroines and supporting allies in Uncharted series. Knowing what their respective personalities and skills will help you play them – or alongside them – better. It sure doesn’t hurt what skills you can exploit to finish a mission sooner than expected.
